Classification is a regime for safeguarding life, property and the environment at sea. It entails verification against a set of requirements during design, construction and operation of ships and offshore units. The requirements are published in a set of Rules based on the accumulated experience from DNV's classed fleet, research and development and almost 140 years of experience. DNV's surveyors stationed around the world work with customers to ensure compliance throughout the lifetime of the classified object. DNV was established in 1864 and is today one of the world's leading classification societies. DNV has been present in Hong Kong since 1970's.
