The Code grants broad autonomy for individual management systems
and solutions. The ISM Code applies to ships and shipping
companies, regardless of the date of construction of the ships. ISM
Code Certification is the responsibility of the flag state
administration and DNV has been authorised by most major flag State
Administrations for ISM Code auditing and certification. more

The DNV ISM Code services include:
ISM Code Certification
DNV will audit a company and its ships according to the
provisions of the ISM Code. A Document of Compliance (DOC) will be
issued to the company, and a Safety Management Certificate (SMC)
will be issued to the ships. The ISM Code Certification includes an
initial audit after at least 3 months of SMC operation, periodical
audits - annual for DOC and intermediate for SMC - after 2 years,
and renewal audits every 5 years.
