DNV certifies all materials, components and systems relevant to safe operation and quality of ships and MOUs as part of classification.

Our design assessment, type approvals and production assessments ensure that systems and components are fit for their purpose, and fulfil the requirements of the DNV Rules or specific recognised standards.



Manufacturer Product Quality Assessment (MPQA)
- a rating tool developed by DNV. DNV offers a product-focused assessment of manufacturers’ ability to control product quality. more
Materials technology
DNV provides classification services and support related to metallic and non-metallic materials and associated shipyard technology. more
Lifting appliances and deck equipment
For more than 30 years, DNV has provided certification services for crane manufacturers as well as ship owners world-wide. DNV also focus on related areas such as: davits personnel lifts, winches and anchor handling equipment. more
Machinery
Our activities within marine propulsion, steering systems, electricity generation and auxiliary systems includes plan- and type approval, consultancy services on rotating machinery together with NOx certification.
Pressure equipment
DNV carries out services on a wide range of pressure equipment. Such as verification, design review and type approcals according to DNV Rules for Ships and MOU. more
Control systems
DNV provides additional class notations for Instrumentation and Automation. Some of the most important features are rules to handle modern computer technology and integrated systems. more

Nautical safety and navigational issues is recognised as the most important areas for Safety at sea. more
Communication systems
DNVs Type Approval (TA) service constitutes a means of ensuring that the GMDSS and Internal Communication Equipment is designed and manufactured to a quality compatible with its intended use and the environment on board. more
Electrical systems - equipment certification
Electrical consumers on a vessel are categorised as essential, important or nonimportant. Essential consumers are defined by main class as consumers necessary to be in continuous operation in order to maintain propulsion and manoeuvrability. more
Fire safety
Fires represent a serious hazard for ships, offshore units and high speed craft. Many studies have shown that fire is the second largest hazards for crew and passengers on ships. Foundering due to collision, grounding or hull structural failure is generally considered being the largest hazard. Where authorised by the flag state, DNV will issue certificates based on international regulations like the SOLAS Convention, the MODU Code and the HSC Code. DNV participates in IMO and IACS (association of major classification societies) in order to keep the international legislations updated and conclude upon interpretations when needed. more

This database provides thousands of certificates issued by DNV within the maritime area. The certificates contain information about products and manufacturers found to comply with international standards, regulations and the DNV Rules.
