“The shipping industry in general is facing major challenges in training a sufficient number of new seafarers. The number of vessels at sea will increase in the years to come. The technology for more advanced systems has been developed. This means that the demand for more and better qualified seafarers will increase,” says Mr Chawla.
This is the main reason for Anglo-Eastern recently signing a contract with DNV SeaSkill.
DNV SeaSkill will deliver a full-scope verification of Anglo-Eastern’s training activities, using the four steps of quality assurance. This will involve verification of the whole process for delivering quality training. The main elements in this process are the quality of the management system, simulators fit for purpose, proper course design, and the overall training delivery.
Capt. Pradeep Chawla adds: “By benchmarking ourselves and undergoing this full-scope verification, we want to assure ourselves and our clients that our training centre is amongst the best in the industry.”
Anglo-Eastern will be the very first ship-management company to take on board this new systematic approach to improve the quality of its training. Anglo-Eastern is also the very first Asian company to do so.
